Once everyone is on board the coach, we will make our way from the outskirts of Argostoli and a 25 minute drive will take us to the Omala Valley area. Our first stop of the day is at the Monastery of St Gerasimos, Kefalonia’s patron saint where we will stay for approximately 20 minutes. Saint’s body is housed in a silver and glass casket in the smaller of the two churches, which was built over a cave where the saint once lived as a hermit.
We will then continue with a spot of traditional wine tasting at the Robola Winery located next to the monastery. A 30 minute visit includes a guided tour through the factory where we will see the wine making process and also have the opportunity to taste and purchase the products.
Leaving the Omala valley, we continue to our next destination which will be the breathtaking cave of Drogarati. A 40 minute stay allows time to explore the large underground chamber filled with stalactites and stalagmites.
A further 10 minute drive brings us to the beautiful underground lake of Melissani. Enjoy a boat ride around the cavern, where the sunlight hits the crystal clear water and fills the cave with an amazing blue light while the boat-man will point out the various rock features. We will stay here for approximately 50 minutes.
A short drive through Karavomilos and along the eastern coast will bring us to the picturesque village of Agia Efimia. We will stay here for 1 and a half hours allowing time for lunch and to explore the village. On leaving Agia Efimia, we will begin our return journey via the western coast of the island. We will make a short stop for photographs overlooking the stunning beach of Myrtos and a 40 minute leisurely drive will return us to Argostoli.
